Hi and welcome to the Nursery!

A Big Happy Birthday to Ryan and Jenna who are a BIG 1 now!

We have had some rather big developments in the Nursery over the past month; Lily, Ryan and Harrison have all started walking; and Jenna and Matthew are now racing around the room crawling! Well done everyone!!

In the Nursery over the past month we have been learning self-help skills. The children have been given opportunities to feed themselves. At first we have had more mess on the table then food in the mouth but as we keep practicing the children will become a lot better.

Please remember to provide a hat for your child for when we play outside. Please remember to mark your child’s name on all of their belongings so they will find their way home to you at the end of the day.

Katie and Emma

Toddler Room News.

Welcome to our new families. In our room we have been developing our self help skills and learning about manners. We all wash our hands with soap before we eat, we put our own shoes away in our bags, (acknowledging our recognition of ownership) we replace our drink bottles in the basket after meals. We put our hats on to go outside to play and we turn our listening ears on to follow directions.

When sitting at the table we sit with our hands together, patiently waiting for our food and drinks and then we are encouraged to say “tar” or “thank you.” We sit with our feet down and happily eat in the company of our friends. Well these are the things we are encouraged to do, sometimes it may be a little too much to hope for. But we are a happy little group.

We have been doing lots of songs, dancing, and playing musical instruments. “Round and Round the Mulberry Bush” is one of our latest repertoires. So please feel free to join in with us and encourage your child’s enthusiasm for music. Music helps your child develop their self confidence, and self esteem.

If you have any questions or queries please feel comfortable to come and ask myself or Sheree.

Congratulations to Sheree on her wedding day. We all wish you both the very best.

Junior Kindy Newsletter / Reflection

Wow, how quickly have the last few months flown by! Last months we had all our fun Easter activities keeping us busy. The children had a great time decorating Easter boxes and making cards for their mums and dads. They also loved joining the older children for the big Easter egg hunt in the yard. It was so nice to see the children so excited and fascinating to watch how quickly they learnt about the element of surprise and wonder.

In May we have some exciting things planned on our events calendar. We really enjoyed participating in our Art Extravaganza on Wednesday 9th of May. This day will be so beneficial and exciting for the Junior Kindy children because they just love exploring all their creativity though messy, hands on art activities!

We also have our mother’s day morning tea and ocean life education day at the end of May

We might create a few teachable moments leading up to this day Watch this space! Let’s see what wild and wonderful ideas and play the children come up with in regards to sea life!

One last thing, as the colder months are approaching, could you please send warm spare clothes in your child’s bag along with a jumper and shoes and socks. This would be greatly appreciated as we want to minimize the amount of winter illnesses.

Just a friendly reminder, to please check and replace your Nappy supply, weekly, as nappies are not supplied in the our room. We appreciate if you label them as we may have others using the same brand.

Thanks,

Ada, Amanda & Sarah.

Senior Kindy – News.

Wow, look how far we’ve progressed in 2 months – our kindy kids` self help skills and independence have increased dramatically due to lots of encouragement from Maria and me.

Over the past 2 months we’ve enjoyed gardening – planting new seedlings and nurturing them. We now recycle some of our lunch scraps which go into Sue’s bin. Denise donated 4 wooden dinosaurs to SK and our children were very excited to check them out. We continued with many dinosaur experiences and we also learnt 3 new dinosaur songs which have lots of hand actions.

We had great fun making and decorating our Easter hats for the parade- thanks to the parents who joined us on the day.

We received some great feed back form parents after we made kites due to the fact that they did actually fly!!

Kindy kids also enjoyed a visit form Brett the musician. We have been able to extend on this experience by learning a new song ‘I am a fine musician’ whereby the children choose instruments to sing about form our new posters.

Our room mascot ‘Jazzy’ has had some fantastic holidays with families who have taken her home. She was lucky to even attend a dawn service on Anzac Day with a family. Thanks to the families for putting the effort into photos for her scrapbook.

Thanks,

Sue and Maria.

Kindergarten 2012

Hi, as this is my first newsletter piece I would like to introduce myself to you all. My name is Angela Holden and I am the new kindergarten teacher. I have now been in the kindergarten room for seven weeks and have been having a great time. I have enjoyed getting to know all of the children in my room and in the centre.

We are always so busy in the kindergarten room trying new activities, experimenting, playing, learning and of course having fun! Since I started here I have been taking time to get know each child in the kindergarten room so I can develop a program which meets their needs and stages of development.

We have been spending time looking at colours, shapes, counting, sorting, number recognition and the alphabet. Computers are always a favourite for the children. The computer games that we play help us with our shapes, colours, alphabet and counting. We have been doing lots of beautiful colour mixing with our paintings to create new colours. Home corner has been very busy with the children playing shops. Blocks, cars and mobilo is also always a favourite and we have seen some fantastic creations of race cars, rocket ships and transformers.

This coming month we will be looking at patterns with our colours and shapes and further visual name and letter recognition and of course about friendship, sharing, kindness and caring!

Cheers Angela.

Hi and welcome to the Nursery!

Over the past couple of months we have seen many new families and siblings join us in the Nursery, we would like to welcome them to the room and to the Centre.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself- My name is Katie and I have been working in the Nursery since December, I have a diploma in children’s Services and I have been in the industry for over 10yrs.

Over the past couple of months we have been looking at Early Years Learning Framework and how to introduce the system into the Nursery. Over the next few months we will be looking at the different ways to meet the practices and principals that are involved with EYLF.

Please remember to mark your child’s belongings, so that they all go home at the end of the day; and as we are a SunSmart centre please can a hat be provided for your child.

Any questions about the Nursery and how routine, please don’t hesitate to ask us.

Katie and Emma

Toddler Room News.

Welcome to all our new families to the Toddler Room. We are all still feeling our way, and those who have only recently joined us are still settling in.

In the Toddler Room we guide the children into acceptable behaviors, which our community and society support. We attempt to introduce some table manners, self help skills, sharing and socializing and basic communication skills.

We have great fun, in Home Corner as we Role Play, displaying the knowledge we have already developed. We come together as a group, listening to stories, and learning action songs. At all times building our communication and interpretation skills.

Creative, and imaginative development is achieved through doing. Paint, collage, play dough, and several other mediums are used to encourage these skills. Sensory and manipulative experiences are all a very important part of the learning process and are incorporated in these areas.

We are learning and developing every day, as we play.

Toddler Room staff are Karen and Sheree and we welcome your interest, participation and suggestions. Please feel comfortable to approach us.

Karen and Sheree.

Junior Kindy Newsletter / Reflection

Well into the swing of things, we thought we should reflect on how the start of the year has been in Junior Kindy.

Firstly, we have so many new children and families in our room as well as some children that have continued on from last year. January was really the month for getting to know all these new faces and a time for forming friendships and bonds with the families.
We have really worked hard on making the children and families feel safe, secure and supported in our room, which is often a challenge as the children have been so confident in their previous rooms and had bonds with other staff.

As you know, this number of children in Junior Kindy has increased and we can now have 18 children in our room with 3 staff (1:6).
This has been our major hurdle as we have been so used to working with 12 children and 2 staff.
With this change we have had to make some changes in the room and adapt our routines and practices accordingly. One thing we have started doing is more indoor/outdoor play where we have smaller groups with each staff member. This has worked so well and we have found it allows us to get to know the children on a more individual level and discover their personalities, interests and enjoyments.

Throughout February we really noticed a change in the room and the children are becoming more settled, comfortable and confident with both Amanda and Ada and the routine/flow of the room.
We have really been enjoying doing more focused activities and games such as painting and collaging, building with different materials such as lego and wooden blocks and construction. Did you know that Junior Kindy are so focused and fascinated with construction? On this interest alone we have extended throughout the 2 months and introduced various tools and building kits.

Lastly, we thought we would mention two of the special moments that we have shared with the children. These moments are what make our day and keep us loving our Junior Kindy room!

Ada’s Special Moment:
We have had the lego blocks out for a while and I noticed that the children were not very interested and mostly enjoyed kicking them around the mat. I decided to sit down with the children and do some intentional teaching. I started to build a house with the lego. I soon had almost all the children around me and they were all contributing by adding blocks to the building. By the end of it, we had used every block and had made a huge, fantastic structure.
We all clapped at our work and I suggested that we put it on the bench for all the parent to see. For the whole week, we did this every day and it was fascinating and encouraging to see the children so happy and interested in lego building again.

Amanda’s Special Moment:
I have really enjoyed getting to know each and every child in our room and learning about their individual needs, wants and cues. It has been so pleasurable forming bonds and friendships with new and old children.

Thankyou,

Senior Kindy News.

Welcome to the families of children who have moved up from Junior Kindy and also to our New Families. The past month has been a settling time for children to learn Senior Kindy routines, rules of the room, and more self help skills; like making our beds, toileting, dressing ourselves and looking after our possessions.

Maria and I are enjoying being aware of the interests, needs, and skills of our new group of children, so we can adapt our plan around these important issues.

Our new children are enjoying our 1st group time in the morning, when we discuss our day. The Weather Chart and Show and Tell is when the child is given the opportunity to develop their self confidence by talking about their item in front of other children.

Maria and I have been encouraging good social skills and we’ve noticed more sharing, turn taking, and team work occurring. Group times have been enjoyable as we are using this time to discuss colours, learn new songs and read new books. We especially love to sit quietly and watch and wait to see if our “Jack in the Box” pops up, and if he does, then there are lots of screams of laughter.

Thanks,

Sue and Maria.

Kindergarten 2012

Welcome 2012, what a year so far, we’ve seen the introduction of the new Eylf curriculum; you may have noticed that I have introduced a new format into our room. Each day, you will see what activities children choose, either individually, or as a group. This play based learning, is encouraged so that children design more of the learning in all areas, and that they meet their individual needs as well as developing social networks. This encourages more learning experiences to occur, I am seeing more confidence in making their own choices, which is increasing their skills, showing respect for their environment as well as others.

Each day as their confidence grows as they direct their own play; there is more harmony and respect in our room. Great positive behaviours, and leadership skills increasing each day. Each day we appoint a class assistant who helps with transition routines, e.g. washing our hands, counting children here today and handing out bowls for meals, this is helping them not only to remember the our daily routine but to take

Owner-ship and responsibility for day to day running of the room and their role in that process.

There are a few very popular activities we share daily; we really enjoy the train set, computers and home corner, drawing and puzzles. I have watched lately the growing interest in all things transport, from building train stations, creating our own plane, building cares and racing cars and bikes etc. I thought over the term we could extend these interest by developing a class project and activities around transport. We have talked about motor bikes and what we would need to wear whilst riding on the road and on the dirt. if you may have able to lend us any bike paraphernalia like helmets, dirt bike gear, gloves, leathers, photo’s etc., we would love to have it on display for the term.

I have had a great time getting to know everyone and enjoyed my time in the kindergarten. Soon we will have our kindergarten program up and running and our new teacher on board. So I’ll see you all around the Centre

Love, learn, play.

Toni
